If you're looking for a cozy yet vibrant spot to enjoy authentic Japanese izakaya dining, Amuro in Darlinghurst is an absolute gem. From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel right at home. The dim lighting, rustic wooden accents, and lively buzz of conversation create the perfect setting for a memorable night out. The staff at Amuro are truly exceptional—attentive, friendly, and always ready with a smile. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcomed and well taken care of, whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor. Their knowledge of the menu and thoughtful recommendations add an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. Now, let’s talk about the food—it’s nothing short of spectacular. The menu is packed with delicious bar bites and hearty dishes, but the standout for me was the Hokkaido scallops. Perfectly sliced, tender, and bursting with flavor, they were an absolute delight. Each bite was a reminder of why Amuro is such a special place. Whether you're stopping by for a quick drink and a snack or settling in for a full meal, Amuro delivers on every level. It’s the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more. Highly recommended!

Tasty food and even better hospitality! The team were really upbeat and easy to talk to. They were more than happy to run us through their menu (decision making and design), where they source ingredients from and how they manage their constantly-changing menu. From a customer’s POV, it is always appreciated when a restaurant showcases a strong connection to the food that they serve. We ordered every single dish off the menu. Everything was done very well and captured the essence of Japanese flavours superbly. I did however feel that the price of some of the dishes didn’t correspond to their serving size — but I guess that is the day and age we live in now with cost of produce being higher etc. The price was however justified through the overall experience and we are looking forward to coming back again when more of the menu changes. Highlight dishes: 🔥 Oyster, shikuwasa, apple 🔥 House pickles (daikon, cucumber and wakame) 🔥 Anago, wasabi salt (strong wasabi taste) 🔥 King oyster mushroom, dashi butter 🔥 Charcoal whole quail 🔥 Coffee jelly

This is an Izakaya that feels like it could belong in Japan. The food is spectacular, the quality of the ingredients is noticed and the flavours are interesting and delicious. I loved the scallops, kingfish, tomato shiso and pickle plate. Service is also notably friendly and helpful. You can feel the passion of the team and it pays off. Looking forward to returning and trying more dishes!

Such a cute spot, we were able to walk in easily as a pair, the decor is so cute definitely recommend their yuzu soda and mandarin sake. the oysters are really good, kingfish was so fresh as well with a nice sauce. Scallops were sooo good too with the sesame on top! The pork was nice and not too heavy. The skewers were nice but I was super full by that point. The fried mochi was a lovely snack and fun texture too!!!
