Without doubt, simply the Best value on campus for a nutritious healthy hot lunch. Yes the queue is busy if you come right at peak lunch time, but it moves fast, and reflects how good the food is here. I wish however that students who are not actually buying anything from the cafe find somewhere else to sit so paying customers can get a seat. That's Sydney Uni for you I guess, and not a reflection on the cafe.

The queueing system this cafe runs is perhaps the most chaotic I have ever seen. I’m not entirely convinced it isn’t an experiment designed to test the social dynamics of queue jumping, confrontation, and individualistic desire to get ahead. The cafe usually has two workers taking orders at different registers, but since these workers also make orders, it’s difficult to predict which register the next order will be taken from. A large line often forms of which the head is usually at the first register. When the second register becomes available, the worker will call out for people to come down -- immediately testing the limit of the tacit social contract of the existing queue; who should go to the next register? The second person in line? Third? The fastest person to respond? Chaos. Adding to this, there is non-negligible portion of people who are aware of this peculiar queueing system and seem to purposefully take advantage by completely bypassing (a sometimes 10+ minute!) queue at the first register by walking straight to the second register. Occasionally these people are confronted by someone in the queue, but often not. It is extremely interesting to watch the people that do this and posit their intentions. Are they simply oblivious to the 20 people lining up before them? Do they actually think they are improving the throughput of orders? Do they care? I think there is scope here for some interesting research. Sometimes awkward to be part of this queue, otherwise incredibly interesting to observe it. The coffee is pretty good too.
